In June 16th -17th, 2007, the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club organized for 6th continuous year the 6th Elpida Cup. It’s a sailing race the proceeds of which are given to the ELPIDA Association of Friends and Children with cancer.

More specifically, on Sunday, 17th of June 2007, at 13:00, in Mikrolimano, a special race was given under the slogan: “Greek Olympic Winners set sail to “Elpida”. The Platu 25 sailing boats sailed along the coast having Olympic Winners among their crew members.

The President of the Association of Hellenic Olympic Winners, Mr. Stelios Mygiakis, at the press conference given for the event, stated the following: “I feel very pleased to be here today, as the Association of Hellenic Olympic Winners is always supporting such kind of efforts and has proved its social sensitivity in the past by participating in relevant initiatives and events. The purpose of the particular project, touched the heart of the Olympic Winners from all sports and their response was prompt and touching. Olympic Winners from almost all sports, will join the sailors in an attempt to awaken social awareness towards the accomplishment of a specific goal, the fulfilment of the ELPIDA Association’s vision. It’s a very unique idea that should be promoted by all mass media.”

The race took place on Sunday June 17th, 2007 and was conducted under perfect sailing conditions.

The winner sailing boat was JOOP, having as crew Mr. Taso Boudouri, Stelio Mygiaki, Lambro Papakosta, Spyro Dimou and Konstantino Tsigkara.
