Page 1 of 4 The Association of Hellenic Olympic Winners was established at 1985.
The creative mind behind the idea was the Olympic winner of Wrestling in Los Angeles, Dimitris Thanopoulos and it was immediately embraced by four of the first post-war Olympic winners: The Olympic Winner in Melburne, Giorgos Roumbanis, the Olympic Winner in Mexico and Munich, Petros Galaktopoulos, the Olympic Winner in Rome, Giorgos Zaimis, the Olympic Winner in Moscow, Stelios Migiakis and the Olympic Winner in Moscow, Los Angeles and Atlanta, Tasos Boudouris. Giorgos Roumbanis was the one who undertook with extraordinary zeal the task of the association's legalization and establishment and the co-ordination of all the Olympic Winners as to become active members.
The founding core of the association was expanding and so at the 21st of March, 1985 the Athenian Court of The First Instance approved the articles of the Association of the Hellenic Olympic Winners, which was signed by the following 21 holders of Olympic Distinctions:
Giorgos Roumbanis, Dimitris Thanopoulos, Stelios Migiakis, Xristos Papanikolaou, Giorgos Zaimis, Petros Galaktopoulos, Giannis Tsintsaris, Giorgos Xatziioannidis, Antonis Georgoulis, Tasos Boudouris, Dimitris Deligiannis, Giorgos Spiridis, Stavros Tziortzis, Nikos Iliadis, Panagiotis Poikilidis, Kostas Kontomanolis, Tasos Gabrilis, Giorgos Petmezas, Tasos Moisidis, Panagiotis Kouligkas and Odisseas Eskitzoglou.
