He has shattered continuously the world records of his career. He is the only weightlifter of the world, at the history of Olympic Games, that has to his collection three gold and one bronze medal from the institution. At the age of 21 he was “crowned” for the first time golden winner of Olympic Games and except for Atlanta in 1996, every victory of his is the result of a great fight with his opponents and of demonstration of a great soul. He is one of the greatest athletes of his sport and by his name are baptized many children at Nauru islands, where weightlifting is the most popular sport. He has been elected four times best athlete at the annual referendum of sports press. He is the first Greek athlete, concerning the Olympic medal collection, that has three gold and one bronze, being ahead of Costas Tsiklitiras who follows with one gold medal, two silver and one bronze. His favorite hobbies are electronic games and backgammon. His jubilation by the Greek fans during his farewell, at Athens Olympic Games, is a historic moment.
